Governor Abbott Called New York's $53 Million Migrant Plan Outrageous

Governor Greg Abbott began busing migrants to New York City in August two years ago. Those and other migrants arrived and this strained the city. New York City Mayor Eric Adams is planning to give $53 million in prepaid food cards to migrants. 

Governor Abbott wrote Texas has sent over 37,600 migrants to New York City since August 2022 according to a press release. 

New York City has over 173,900 migrants according to Mayor Adams when he presented information to the New York State Senate on February 6. 

Some have criticized Adams’ new idea to help migrants. 

Mayor Adams defended his position and said according to The Daily Mail:

“So we are going to save money on delivery, we're going to save money on people wasting food, and this is a pilot project we're going to use that is going to save us $6.7 million a year.” 

“And if the pilot turns out to be successful, then we're going to expand it not only with the migrants and asylum seekers, we'd look to do that expansion throughout the entire system – trying to find smarter, more cost-effective ways to deal with this crisis that was dropped in our lap.”

“We're not giving people American Express cards. We found that the food delivery service that we set up during the emergency - we could find a better way to do it in our belief that we want to cut 20 percent of the migrant costs.” 

“So we have a pilot project with 500 people that we are giving them food cards, so instead of a debit card, instead of having to deliver food, and have people eat food – we were seeing wasting food – they're now able to get their own food, that is going to be spent $12 a day.”

Abbott said according to The Washington Examiner:

“It sounds like insanity is behind it because it really is offensive. It may be the most reprehensible thing that I’ve seen take place over the past 48 hours.” 

“What’s going on in New York is outrageous, and Americans across the entire country are angry not just about what’s going on in New York, but the underlying cause for it, which is Joe Biden’s open border policies.”
