Governor Greg Abbott gave a press conference announcing his plans to improve border security. Abbott was joined by State representatives and key Texas officials at Shelby Park.

This comes a day after Congress failed to come up with a border security plan according to NBC News. Just recently the U.S. Supreme Court sided with the Biden administration according to The Texas Tribune. The Court voted to give authority to the federal government to handle the border as Governor Abbott took over Shelby Park to prevent illegal immigrant access while also limiting U.S. Border Patrol access.

At the press conference, Governor Abbott said according to CBS Austin:

"We are working on expansion plans to expand the successful operations that we’ve seen in certain locations that deter illegal immigration. Some of those will be announced after they occur, and some will be announced beforehand."

Governor Abbott plans to increase National Guard support and provide more razor wire. No specific details were provided.

According to News 4 San Antonio, Governor Abbott was joined by the Department of Public Safety Deputy Director Freeman Martin, Adjutant General of Texas Major General Thomas Suelzer, and Texas Border Czar Mike Banks.

In addition, Representatives Greg Bonnen, Benjamin Bumgarner, Dustin Burrows, Briscoe Cain, Giovanni Capriglione, Mano DeAyala, Stan Gerdes, Cody Harris, Cole Hefner, Lacey Hull, Jacey Jetton, Stan Kitzman, Stephanie Klick, Jeff Leach, Candy Noble, Matt Shaheen, John Smithee, David Spiller, Lynn Stucky, Kronda Thimesch, Ellen Troxclair, and Terry Wilson joined the governor.

Governor Abbott criticized President Biden and said according to KCBD:

“He does not need more laws. He has the tools in his toolbox to do exactly what Texas is doing, and that is to deny illegal entry into the country, which he is required to do by laws already passed by Congress.”
“One reason this area is occupied by the State of Texas is to prevent the Biden Administration from any further violation of federal law on this Texas land.”

What do you think about Governor Abbott’s idea?
