As Texas sees fewer illegal immigrants cross its border, another southern state is seeing an increase. Former Republican candidate for governor Kari Lake blamed the rise on Texas Governor Greg Abbott.

Governor Abbott going on his third term as governor made several moves to help Texas see few migrants cross the southern border.

Abbott started building the wall that former President Donald Trump started and that current President Joe Biden stopped when he took office.

Then Abbott started Operation Lone Star in April 2022 as the Biden administration wasn’t providing support as migrants crossed the border according to a press release. Abbott has sent over 100,000 migrants to sanctuary cities. In addition, he deployed the Texas National Guard to provide additional support to prevent illegal migrants from entering Texas according to The Texas Tribune.

Kari Lake said if she were elected governor a year ago, she would have made different changes than current Governor Katie Hobbs according to Newsweek:

"The moment I took my hand off the Bible after taking the oath of office, more than a year ago, we would have started completing the wall, building the wall, stopping people coming over."
"There would not be people pouring across our border. Our border would not look like a refugee encampment."

Lake narrowly lost to Hobbs in the Arizona 2022 election for governor according to Axios.

When Hobbs came into office, she wanted the Biden administration to provide more support for the border state. A year later, Hobbs has mentioned copying Governor Abbott and alerting Arizona’s National Guard to provide more support as the Tucson sector sees the largest number of migrants cross the border.

Last month, Lake had her first campaign ad for Senate that said according to The Hill:

“Ten thousand illegals pour into the U.S. every single day. Crime, drug deaths, homelessness — it’s hurting every community.”
“With President Trump, we had a secure border, but Joe Biden and his enablers, Kyrsten Sinema and Ruben Gallego, destroyed that security.”
“When we take back the U.S. Senate, we can fix it. I’m Kari Lake, and I approve this message because my vision is to make Arizona safe, affordable, and great again, and I’m asking your help to do it.”
