Governor Abbott Named as Potential VP on Trump's Shortlist - Here's What Abbott Said

Republican candidate Donald Trump stopped in Texas and there has been interest to make Governor Greg Abbott his running mate as vice president. Trump didn’t avoid answering when asked if Abbott could be his choice.

Trump was in Eagle Pass, Texas where Governor Abbott joined him. The former president has not officially announced his vice president as the election is less than 9 months from now.

Donald Trump said in a joint appearance with Abbott, Trump told Fox News Sean Hannity the governor is someone he would consider as Vice President according to Yahoo:

“Certainly, he would be somebody that I would very much consider.”

Other potential vice presidents on Trump’s shortlist includes South Carolina Senator Tim Scott, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis, biotech entrepreneur Vivek Ramaswamy, Florida Representative Byron Donalds, South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem, and former Hawaii Representative Tulsi Gabbard according to The Politico.

Now, Governor Abbott has been mentioned as another potential candidate to make Trump’s shortlist.

Previously, Governor Abbott said in a Sunday interview on CNN that there were other people better suited for the Vice President role than himself.

Abbott said according to CNN:

“That means helping him find the right vice presidential candidate who will help President Trump get elected and then help him be successful when he does get elected. I think there’s so many people other than myself who are best situated for that.”

Governor Abbott also told CBS that he was planning to run for re-election as Texas governor as his current term expires in 2026.
