Border Patrol Detains Terrorist on Southern Border

Last month a Columbian on the Terror Watch list was arrested before Donald Trump and President Joe Biden’s border visit to Texas. Then a little over a week ago, a member of the FARC also from Columbia was arrested along the border.

Since President Biden came into office, over 300 individuals on the terror watch list have crossed the southern open border according to Chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee Mark Green in the Daily Mail.

On March 8, Border Patrol arrested Jerminton Genaro-Quinones Carvajal, a Columbian migrant near El Paso. This was also around the time another foreign terrorist, a Lebanese migrant, was arrested in West Texas according to The New York Post. 

Carvajal admitted to overseeing the transportation of goods and unmarked crates that contained firearms, ammunition, and cocaine for the FARC. He said he was no longer with the organization. 

The FARC  stands for the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (Fuerzas Armadas Revolucionarias de Colombia — FARC) and they finance wars against the State. The guerilla group was formed in 1961 and has battled the Columbian government and has conducted kidnappings, extortion, and drug trade. The United States declared the FARC a terrorist organization in 1997.

The organization signed a peace agreement with the Columbian government in 2016 but some members formed their own group known as the ex-FARC mafia. The group has about 2,000 members. 

Carvajal has a court date on March 25. Records show he entered Texas by swimming the Rio Grande River. 

The terror watchlist has grown to 2 million people in six years, nearly doubling what it was before according to CBS News.
