This past week over 100 Texas sheriffs met Governor Greg Abbott and showed their support for Operation Lone Star. Governor Abbott started the operation shortly after President Joe Biden came into the office to help prevent illegal immigrants from entering Texas.

In Austin, over 100 sheriffs signed a letter to Governor Abbott that addressed the open border.

Smith County Sheriff Larry Smith president of the Sheriffs’ Association of Texas said in the letter according to Tyler Morning Telegraph:

“The unsecured border is a deliberate, destructive, and inhumane violation of Texas and federal law.”
“It overwhelms the resources of Texas and the United States and encourages continued invasion by unknown criminals and unvetted persons.”
“Border security and immigration can and should be mutually exclusive. An antiquated immigration process in need of improvement does not infer or require our government to have an ineffective, unsecured, and dangerous southern border.”

Since Operation Lone Star started, Governor Abbott through the use of the Department of Public Safety, Texas National Guard, and other agencies apprehended 505,800 illegal immigrants and more than 41,000 criminal arrests. Then with the flow of fentanyl across the border, Texas law enforcement seized over 470 million lethal doses of fentanyl.

Among the sheriffs who attended were: Cherokee County Sheriff Brent Dickson, Cass County Sheriff Larry Rowe, Bowie County Sheriff Jeffrey K. Neal, Angelina County Sheriff Tom Selman, Henderson County Sheriff Botie Hillhouse, Rains County Sheriff Michael O. Hopkins, Rusk County Sheriff Johnwayne Valdez, Upshur County Sheriff Larry Webb, Van Zandt County Sheriff Joe Carter, Panola County Sheriff Cutter Clinton, Nacogdoches County Sheriff Jason Bridges, Wood County Sheriff Kelly Cole, Franklin County Sheriff Ricky S. Jones, and Camp County Sheriff John B. Cortelyou.
