Texas Governor Greg Abbott had a meeting with House Speaker Mike Johnson last Thursday at the governor’s mansion. The two saw eye to eye on the border crisis.

Johnson supported the effort Governor Abbott was making in the border crisis.

According to a press release, Governor Abbott mentioned these areas:

    • The border crisis was unacceptable
    • Called for border security legislation
    • The success of Operation Lone Star using the Texas National Guard and Texas Public Safety
    • Installing razor wire and building the Texas wall
    • Asked for support against President Biden and the fight against the Texas border mission

At the meeting, Johnson said in a statement after the visit according to Fox News:

"By opening the border to criminals, traffickers, and cartels, the Biden administration is actively endangering the American people, our families, ranchers, and law enforcement. When the federal government fails to perform its constitutional duty to protect our borders, states have no choice but to fill that role."

Johnson has supported Governor Abbott’s mission as he recognizes the border crisis. According to the Press-Tribune, Speaker Johnson said to local government officials and community leaders on February 23:

“The border is the number one issue in America. It doesn’t matter where you are. Everybody knows that it is not just a crisis, it is a catastrophe. It is the root cause of so many bills right now. In just numbers, the official number of encounters at the southern border in the last three years is over 8 million people. It is almost twice the population of Louisiana.”

Congress recently passed the funding bill which provided money for Homeland Security. Money will provide funding for 150 more Border Patrol Agents.

Do you think there will be more progress from the Biden administration to support the border?
