I have a dog and have taken him on several trips. Usually, they were to get his shots or a wash.

With my dog, he’s still a puppy. He is very hyper and cannot sit still.

So he’ll be all over the place.

Plus, he’s a pug, so he’s not a big dog.

A few times when I’m driving, I see other dog owners and they have a dog in their car or truck.

For me, I always had my dog in his cage. I won’t let him run around my car.

This morning, I looked up the law in Texas for carrying dogs in the car.

Texas does not have a law to restrain dogs in a vehicle.

The University of Pennsylvania found out that in 600 car accidents with dogs, 31% of the dogs were wounded. Young dogs received most of the injuries. In the study, 410 dogs had skeletal injuries.

Taking a dog to the veterinarian can be expensive depending on the medical reason.

    Animal Donation published:

Drivers in Texas must provide a secure and safe environment for their animals while traveling in a vehicle. Animals should be secured with either a harness, pet carrier, or crate that is specifically designed for motor vehicle travel.

If you have pet insurance for your dog, the insurance company will not cover you if the dog is not restrained.

Pet stores sell different ways to secure a dog in your car. I use a small cage since it fits and still gives my dog room to move around.
