Texas politicians are outraged over the death of Houston’s Jocelyn Nungary by two illegal immigrants. Some want the immigration system fixed and others are blaming President Joe Biden.

Illegal immigrants Johan Jose Martinez-Rangel, 21, and Franklin Jose Peña Ramos, 26, killed Jocelyn, age 12, as they lured her under a bridge on June 17.

Martinez-Rangel and Ramos entered the country illegally.

Harris County District Attorney Kim Ogg told KPRC on Thursday according to Fox News:

"They should have never been released when they crossed over into El Paso, but we have a broken system, and Jocelyn’s death resulted. And it’s just hard when you know something could have been prevented like a child’s death."

    Ogg added:

"Our immigration system is broken, and if ever there was a case that reflected that, it's this one.”

Patrick said in a post to X:

“I told Jocelyn’s mom that the Texas Senate will pass bail reform once again and will not accept the House killing this legislation. It will be named after her daughter as “Jocelyn’s Law,” so her daughter’s name will never be forgotten and will ensure capital murderers are not eligible for bail ever again. I am positive Texans will overwhelmingly approve this change to our Constitution.”
“1. “Jocelyn’s Law” will allow Texans to vote to amend the Constitution to automatically deny bail for all capital murderers.
    2. The Texas Senate will enhance “Lauren’s Law,” making the murder of any child under 15 a death-penalty-eligible offense (currently, only the murder of a child under 10 is a death-penalty-eligible offense).”

Governor Greg Abbott blamed President Joe Biden during an interview on Fox News in a post on X:

“Jocelyn Nungaray's murder was a direct result of the Biden Administration’s open border policies.
Jocelyn would be alive today if Joe Biden did his job to secure the border.”

Republican candidate for president Donald Trump also called the family of Jocelyn before his presidential debate last Thursday.

Jocelyn’s best friend Victoria Galvan was with the mother of Jocelyn and Trump said he wanted to talk to Jocelyn’s family before the debate according to The NY Post:

“He was like, ‘I’m actually about to come on for a debate’ … He gave his condolences, and he said that he would be reaching back out to her.”
“He wanted to … say that he was praying for Alexis and that he’s been thinking about her and he wanted to reach out. He said that he was going to reach out in a couple days to her … I mean, she was really … we were all shocked.”
