New Mexico Resident Killed After Hit By Drunk Illegal Immigrant

New Mexico doesn’t make the news as much as Texas, Arizona, and California when it comes to illegal immigrants crossing the border with Mexico. One recent incident could possibly bring some more attention to this border state.

Tiger Gutierrez, a 22-year-old New Mexico resident was driving a Tesla and killed by an illegal immigrant who ran a red light. Gutierrez was killed, and a passenger was hospitalized.

ICE confirmed that 21-year-old Jesus Sandoval-Martinez was drunk and arrested. He fled the scene after hitting Gutierrez’s car while speeding, but witnesses followed him to a Walgreens in Northwest Albuquerque until police officers arrived.

The agency plans to remove Sandoval-Martinez. He did not have a driver’s license, had no criminal record, and was a Mexican national.

Sandoval-Martinez was charged with leaving the scene after the accident and driving drunk.

In June, U.S. Customs and Border Patrol recorded 84,000 migrants who illegally crossed the border according to Fox News.

New Mexico gets a fraction of the illegal immigrants of other border states. In 2021, New Mexico had 143,857 illegal immigrants detained according to Newsweek.

The state has several stash houses where migrants gather in Las Cruces according to CBS and Sunland Park as reported by KFOX News.
