Leaked Lunar Lake's Ultra 7 chip debuts in Geekbench database — impressive performance from low-power chips
A pair of Geekbench listings reveal new performance numbers for Intel's upcoming Lunar Lake Ultra 7 268V with 8 cores. The chip's core count disadvantage over Meteor Lake shows in Geekbench's multi-core results.
DEC PDP-10 owned by Microsoft co-founder coming to auction — $30k reserve on mainframe model behind firm's first commercial software
Christie's is set to auction off a DEC PDP-10 mainframe, similar to what Gates and Allen used to build the Altair BASIC — the first product Microsoft ever built.
Olimex Neo6502pc delivers Apple II emulation with modern peripherals — W65C02 and RP2040 co-processor in one $32 SBC
The Neo6502pc is part classic computer or gaming emulator and part modern single-board computer, allowing easy use of USB devices like a keyboard, mouse, or gamepad with vintage software like that found on the Apple II.
AMD MI300X performance compared with Nvidia H100 — low-level benchmarks testing cache, latency, inference, and more show strong results for single GPUs
AMD's MI300X was tested by Chips and Cheese, looking at many low-level performance metrics and comparing the chip with rival Nvidia H100 in compute throughput and cache intensive benchmarks. Scaleout performance unfortunately wasn't tested, which is far more important for data center hardware, and there are other questions raised.
Taiwanese research firm says TSMC will maintain foundry lead until at least 2032 — US expected to account for 28% of leading edge manufacturing
Taiwan will remain the world's largest manufacturer of logic semiconductors for at least another eight years, according to the director of the Taiwan-based Industrial Technology Research Institute.
Nvidia RTX 4070 Ti Super using AD102 GPU appears — a fresh variant surfaces with a harvested RTX 4090 die
An MSI product sheet and leaked GPU-Z screenshot point to a GeForce RTX 4070 Ti Super with the AD102 silicon. It shouldn't affect performance as it has the same specifications, but the larger die could help with cooling.
AMD MI300X posts fastest ever Geekbench 6 OpenCL score — 19% faster than RTX 4090, and only eight times as expensive
AMD's flagship MI300X super AI GPU was tested in Geekbench 6, posting the fastest ever result in an increasingly meaningless GPU benchmark. It's 19% faster than Nvidia's RTX 4090, which in turn beats the H100 PCIe by 13%. This is clearly just for 'fun' as Geekbench 6 isn't designed to evaluate enterprise-grade AI GPUs.
