DeSantis' Risky Power Play: The Consequences of His Rule

    2022-12-25

With Christmas underway, we're again reminded Republican leadership couldn't care less about the vulnerable, poor, or immigrants.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis has denied transgender medical care to some of society's most powerless social groups. He has not been alone in this, as Republicans around the nation embrace a diabolical counterattack against vulnerable groups of all sizes.

Some are concerned DeSantis' power grab on his journey to the presidency may inspire other Republican governors with terrible outcomes.

DeSantis is trying to label every left-leaning policy as woke idiocy. Even people who slightly lean toward the progressive side end up with labels as snowflakes, libtards, and so on.

    Battleground of gender

His government is simultaneously employing various state agencies to shut off what is termed as "gender-affirming" care that aids trans persons in realizing their identities as part of DeSantis' continuous MAGA battle against progressives. It's the most recent example of DeSantis enacting crueler policies as he gains national recognition ahead of a potential 2024 bid for the White House.

But it also demonstrates how DeSantis differs from his presumed primary rival, former President Donald Trump. Political experts said DeSantis is skilled at using the government's apparatus to his advantage—and against the underprivileged. He is a PR mastermind.

And anyone thinking of confronting DeSantis is running out of time.

    Democracy-who?

“Governors are going to see this and think this is something they can do to sidestep the democratic process,” said Carl Charles, a civil rights lawyer opposing one of those policies.

The governor's attack resembles a pincer motion. When the state's Medicaid program for transgender health care was eliminated in August, his administration targeted the poor. It is also getting ready to forbid doctors from offering crucial therapies to children.

“They think we’re less than everybody. They think people don’t empathize with us. And unfortunately, he’s targeting the youngest people,” said Andrea Montanez, a human rights activist.

In 2021, Republicans nationwide declared war against transgender communities. DeSantis then signed a law prohibiting transgender girls from playing on sports teams. And his track record against other minorities and immigrants is well known.

What do you think about DeSantis's latest actions?
