DeSantis' Inaugural Speech Ignites Firestorms of Shocking Speculations

    2023-01-05

Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis' second-term inauguration speech on Tuesday fueled even more speculations about his 2024 presidential campaign.

DeSantis has positioned himself as a top contender for the Republican nomination for president in 2024 after his landslide re-election wins by a whopping 19.4 percentage points against rival Charlie Crist.

Will he maintain his culture war agenda, or will he widen his message and calm down what has been a combative posture by reviving some of the unifying matters of his first inauguration in 2019?

During his second inaugural speech, DeSantis compared his record as governor with that of Democrat-run states. He labeled Florida as the "promised land of sanity" and said the sunshine state is where "woke goes to die."

DeSantis also ranted against global elites, far-left ideologies, and government overreach. DeSantis has slid so far to the right he might make a full circle soon.

"Now, fighting for freedom is not always easy because the threats to freedom are more complex and more widespread than they have been in the past," DeSantis said. "The threats can come from entrenched bureaucrats in D.C., jet setters in Davos, and corporations wielding public power. But fight, we must. We embrace our founding creed that our rights are not granted by courtesy of the state but are endowed by the hand of the Almighty.

In a tweet, Tim Young, a conservative commentator, said, "DeSantis' Florida inauguration speech sure sounds a lot like the launch of a Presidential campaign.”

Observers also noticed the presence of former Florida governor and former 2016 presidential candidate Jeb Bush at DeSantis's inauguration.

"A Jeb(!) sighting at the DeSantis inauguration," Jake Lahut, a reporter for the Daily Beast, tweeted.

In truth DeSantis is not what we need. He is an authoritarian like Trump but more dangerous because he actually understands how the government was set up to operate. If given presidential power he would go further than Trump ever dreamed in an attempt to remake America as an authoritarian state within which only his orders would be obeyed. Democrats and left-leaning Independents need to work together to ensure he is never nominated, let alone elected, to the most powerful position in the country.
