Would DeSantis' Presidency be as Bad as Trump's? Here's Your Answer

Ron DeSantis is yet to announce his presidential bid, but many believe he will.

A lot could change between now and then, and many Republicans would love to see DeSantis run.

He would be an alternative to now disgraced Donald Trump, who's losing support among his voting base. But would DeSantis' presidency be any different than Trump's?

Critics say DeSantis's authoritarian behavior would make his presidency as awful as Donald Trump's. Other see a silver lining in DeSantis and something the Republican party needs to regain the trust of the American people.

DeSantis is Anti-Science

As millions of Americans suffered from COVID-19, DeSantis lifted all restrictions on businesses, schools, and government buildings and prohibited local governments from enforcing their own public health measures.

He first advised individuals to get the virus vaccine but later reversed course and refused to confirm if he took a booster dose. Vaccines became unpopular among his voting base, and he would risk alienating some of his core supporters if he endorsed anything scientific.

DeSantis has a hard time accepting LGBTQ+

Despite doctors and mental health professionals saying gender-affirming medical care is safe and useful for those who need it, the Florida Board of Medicine and the state Board of Osteopathic Medicine decided to forbid trans minors in Florida from obtaining it.

Prior to that, DeSantis' administration banned transgender girls from participating in sports and abolished Medicaid coverage for transgender care for low-income people of any age. And most recently, DeSantis demanded to see the medical records of transgender students in Florida.

He's constantly escalating his fight against LGBTQ+ groups.

DeSantis dislikes free speech

DeSantis’s "Stop WOKE Act, which he signed into law in April, forbids discussions about race in classrooms and workplaces and gives students and employees the right to sue if they feel that a lesson or workplace training program made them "feel guilt, anguish, or any other form of psychological distress" because of their race.

The "Don't Say Gay" bill, which DeSantis signed into law in March 2022, forbids teachers from discussing gender identity or sexual orientation in kindergarten through third grade. This had a chilling impact throughout the state. DeSantis is not just proud of the law, but he has gone after anyone who has dared to speak out against it.
