The Nation Stands Shocked as Trump Denies Calling DeSantis "Meatball Ron"

In a social media post, former president Donald Trump refuted claims and rumors that he ever referred to Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis as "Meatball Ron."

"I will never call Ron DeSanctimonious' Meatball' Ron, as the Fake News is insisting I will," Trump said on a conservative social media site.

He refuted a dig with another dig. Trump never wastes a chance to nickname his opponents.

According to a report from The New York Times, "Meatball Ron" is the nickname used by Trump to describe DeSantis in casual conversations, apparently a poke at the Florida governor's weight and Italian heritage.

Despite dismissing the moniker, the former president continued to criticize DeSantis' performance as governor, given the possibility of a presidential primary fight.

Is Trump too Woke to call Desantis a "meatball"?

Trump has referred to DeSantis as "Shutdown Ron" in his handling of the COVID-19 pandemic.

"His beaches and State were closed for long periods, his testing, testing, testing for the China Virus didn't work out too well, and his loyalty skills very weak," Trump said.

DeSantis is thought to be Trump's strongest rival for the Republican presidential nomination. Even though DeSantis hasn't yet declared his candidacy, surveys often place him and Trump in a close battle.

In recent months, Trump has criticized the governor of Florida.

The former president shared a social media post earlier this month in which DeSantis was accused of "grooming high school girls with alcohol" while working as a teacher in his early 20s. That comes after claims that he partied with former students at a private school in Georgia 20 years ago.

DeSantis dismissed Trump's posts as mere smears.

DeSantis has frequently been referred to as "Ron DeSanctimonious" by Trump, who is known for using derisive nicknames for all his political opponents. In November, Trump declared the start of his campaign for a second term and intensified his attacks on DeSantis, a potential opponent in the primaries.
