Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is already receiving a substantial cash boost from some of the wealthiest Republican contributors for his supposed presidential campaign.

According to online records kept by Friends of Ron DeSantis, the investor Jeffrey Yass gave $2.5 million to DeSantis' state campaign committee on February 7. Additionally, Jude and Christopher Reyes, the billionaire brothers who run one of the nation's largest distributors of food and beer, each contributed $1 million to DeSantis' committee last week.

    Strong assumptions

The seven-figure checks are rolling in before DeSantis' much-awaited presidential campaign. DeSantis plans to host a three-day retreat for contributors this weekend in Donald Trump's neighborhood, possibly ahead of a GOP primary showdown with Trump.

The publication of his biography, "The Courage to Be Free," is set for next Tuesday, and engagements with GOP activists are planned for Texas, California, and Alabama, in addition to a planned national book tour.

"We're going to sell some books. We're going to spread the message of Florida. And then on March 8, I have our legislative session kicking off," DeSantis said. "As we get beyond that, then we decide from there."

Although DeSantis is not rushing to enter the Republican primary, this string of activities is the most apparent indication yet that he plans to run for president. According to sources close to the governor, DeSantis is adhering to his plans to hold off on a formal announcement until May or June, following the conclusion of the state legislature's regular legislative session.

DeSantis' willingness to stay in the race is partially explained by the ongoing financial support he receives from wealthy contributors despite not officially declaring his candidacy. DeSantis' supporters seem to think he can easily take on Donald Trump and rescue America from the "woke liberals."
