The GOP is witnessing yet another plot twist in relationships between its two biggest stars.

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis and former President Donald Trump were butting heads until yesterday. But today, it seems like DeSantis is publicly supporting Trump no matter the consequences.

Soon after learning that Trump would be indicted and arrested, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis backed his likely presidential challenger by calling the investigation "un-American."

Trump is refusing to make peace with DeSantis just yet

A super PAC connected to Trump began airing advertisements costing at least $1.3 million that criticize DeSantis for having previously supported Medicare and Social Security cuts. The ads started airing on Friday.

The ads claim the governor "doesn't share our values" and is "just not ready to be president." It's funny when Trump criticizes someone for not sharing conservative values. However, Trump should never be underestimated.

The former president is skilled at making any criticism of him appear directed at his supporters, so any verbal onslaught DeSantis would launch would be dangerous. The GOP supporters have always seemed to enjoy the former president's put-downs and often nasty remarks, and he has no qualms about criticizing fellow Republicans.

According to recent polling, DeSantis and Trump are in a two-man battle for the GOP nomination to oppose President Joe Biden, with Trump's lead over DeSantis increasing in the past few weeks. However, the conflict between the two has been mostly one-sided thus far, and Trump's indictment will only strengthen this dynamic.

The allegations against Trump are anticipated to center on a payment made to Stormy Daniels, a former porn actress, to keep quiet about their relationship before the 2016 election, in which Trump narrowly defeated Democrat Hillary Clinton.

DeSantis went even further with an unnecessary promise to shield Trump from extradition. Next week, Trump is expected to surrender to prosecutors in New York. And DeSantis has little to no power over this process.

DeSantis has not been entirely silent, most notably criticizing Trump earlier this month over the indictment, saying he is unsure what goes into paying hush money to a porn star to ensure silence over some alleged affair.

What do you think about Trump's indictment?
