Florida Governor Ron DeSantis shocks the nation by threatening to impose taxes on roads and hotels, leading to Disney's theme park.

DeSantis pledged to deprive the corporation of its authority over development in the Reedy Creek district.

This threat is the latest incident in the state's ongoing war with its largest employer.

Disney is a "joke," according to DeSantis

DeSantis is praised as the leading Republican candidate for the upcoming presidential elections, even though he's yet to announce his bid.

His disagreement with the entertainment giant began when Disney denounced the state's Parental Rights in Education Act, also called by critics the "Don't Say Gay" bill.

The bill prohibits teaching pupils about gender identity and sexual orientation. DeSantis is trying to extend this law to encompass all grades.

DeSantis has fought for increased governmental control over Disney's Orlando amusement parks since the company objected to the policy.

For over 50 years, Walt Disney World in Florida operated within the Reedy Creek Improvement District, functioning as a self-governing area and managing utilities and fire service.

In a speech DeSantis delivered on Thursday at the conservative Hillsdale College in Michigan, he referred to Disney as "a joke."

In February, DeSantis signed a bill requiring the company to additional layers of regulation through a five-member board selected by the state.

However, the new board claimed last week that its power had been prevented by a last-minute agreement giving the entertainment giant almost total control over future development in the district.

Earlier this week, Disney CEO Bob Iger criticized DeSantis for being "anti-business" and "anti-Florida."

What do you think of DeSantis's feud with Disney?
