Former president's son, Trump Jr., is attacking Florida Governor Ron DeSantis for traveling out-of-state during one of the largest floods in South Florida history.

The entire cities are underwater, cars are stranded, and Floridians are scrambling to go on about their life.

"Fort Lauderdale is underwater, and DeSantis is campaigning in Ohio right now instead of taking care of the people suffering in his state," Donald Trump Jr. said on Twitter.

Ron DeSantis and the former president are getting more aggressive and hostile toward one another in the wake of the 2024 elections. Now, Donald Trump Jr has joined the fight, and he's going straight after Ron DeSantis.

    Floods and campaigns

According to reports, more than two feet of rain fell on Fort Lauderdale and the surrounding area, forcing the closure of the airport and flooding homes and highways.

Later that day, DeSantis, who had traveled to Ohio to attend a Butler County Republican Party event, issued a state of emergency declaration for Fort Lauderdale and Broward County. The reports said the rain and flooding might keep causing problems with vital infrastructure, such as county roads, airports, hospitals, and schools.

Additionally, the governor's office approved cash from the state's emergency planning and response fund for use in disaster assistance.

The Florida Division of Emergency Management sent personnel to help with recovery activities, which included gathering information for damage assessments.

While DeSantis is widely anticipated to enter the race over the next few months, Trump has already announced his presidential bid.

The Florida Highway Patrol added staffing to coordinate coverage in response to the flood.

However, the Democrat mayor of Fort Lauderdale, Dean Trantalis, claimed that the governor had not called him to discuss the floods and the ongoing cleanup operation.

The governor's office responded that it is improper for political opponents and the media to politicize any major national tragedy immediately. For many, it seems like DeSantis would rather campaign than deal with a natural crisis.

What do you think about DeSantis's trip during these times?

He’s obviously ignorant about life in Florida. Every now and then a huge downpour causes flooding. Especially in south Florida. There is nothing the governor can do to remedy that. And the water always recedes. Local governments are used to managing it. This is just anti DeSantis political rhetoric.
