Former president Donald Trump is launching a full-scale attack from the shadows on his first presidential opponent, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis.

Even before Ron DeSantis officially announced his run for president, a super PAC supporting former President Donald Trump had already spent more than $6 million on television advertisements criticizing the Florida governor.

The super PAC Make America Great Again Inc has been spending $1.5 million weekly on ads that are supposed to smear Ron DeSan.

    Ron DeSantis is Under Fire

The expenditures in the PAC's disclosure filings with the Federal Election Commission are listed as media spots opposing "presidential candidate" Ron DeSantis. As we all know, Ron DeSantis is yet to announce his run.

Last week's most recent advertisement focused on the Florida governor's history of supporting Medicare and Social Security cuts while serving in Congress. Others have argued that DeSantis has terrible eating habits and is "just not ready to be president."

Recent presidential surveys show Trump being ahead of DeSantis. Trump has also kept gaining endorsements. Unlike DeSantis, Trump is actively campaigning and seeking endorsements.

Even though he hasn't officially announced his campaign, the governor of Florida has been raising money across the nation and travelling abroad to meet with international dignitaries. He's quietly campaigning but not active enough to stay ahead of Trump.

"I'm not a candidate, so we'll see if and when that changes," said DeSantis when asked about following behind Trump in the polls.

Significant Republican donors have distanced themselves from Trump over the years, claiming they prefer a different person to lead the party. While some have endorsed DeSantis as Trump's replacement, others keep an eye on how the primary field will play out before publicly endorsing a candidate.

Despite this, the Make America Great Again super PAC has a sizable war fund, having received $60 million through Trump's Save America PAC since the 2020 election.

Never Back Down, the leading super PAC for DeSantis has raised $30 million but only spent $36,000 on ad placements so far.

What do you think about Trump's smear campaign against DeSantis?

No one has forgotten about January 6th. Trump rarely makes any sense, so don't worry about him.
