The GOP in Shock as DeSantis Fires Back at Trump Directly

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized former President Donald Trump for not taking a stronger stand on abortion restrictions.

DeSantis defended his action to approve a law prohibiting abortions after six weeks of pregnancy, even though several Republicans, including Trump, have criticized it as overly strict.

Until now, DeSantis has been reluctant to defend himself against Trump's accusations. He would refuse to comment or make any public statements regarding Trump's intensifying attacks.

DeSantis seems to be one step further to announcing his presidential bid, according to these comments.

    Trump won't give up

"If you look at what DeSantis did, many people don't even know if he knew what he was doing. But he signed six weeks, and many people within the pro-life movement feel that that was too harsh," Trump said.

The former president also took credit for designating the conservative Supreme Court justices who overturned Roe v. Wade. Trump has not manifested his support for a federal abortion law and what type of restrictions he would be willing to sign into law.

The governor said, "I think that as a Florida resident, you know, he didn't answer about 'would you have signed the heartbeat bill that Florida did.' It had all the exceptions that people talk about. The Legislature put it in. I signed the bill. I was proud to do it. He won't answer whether he would sign it or not."

Florida's current abortion statute, which forbids it beyond 15 weeks of pregnancy, was signed after the Supreme Court overturned its landmark ruling in Roe, which legalized abortion fifty years ago.

The Florida legislators rolled it back to six weeks, with exceptions for rape, incest, and human trafficking.

Democrats condemned the new law, saying it is akin to a complete ban because some people are unaware they are pregnant at six weeks.

They both are criminals and don't deserve to be president.

He needs to finnish being our Govener before he tries to go and, be president. I want him to stay Govener here, I don't want him to be president. I'm kind of dissapointed in him for running around the country when he should be focused on us here in Florida.
