America Stunned as DeSantis Says He'll "Destroy Leftism"

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is serious about waging a war against everything left of the center.

He wants to serve two terms in the White House and states he will "destroy leftism in this country" should he defeat former President Donald Trump for the Republican presidential nomination.

"I will be able to destroy leftism in this country and leave woke ideology in the dustbin of history," DeSantis said.

These statements echo some extreme right-wing ideologies of the early 20th century.

Twitter is the New Republican Stronghold

DeSantis announced his long-anticipated run for office in a glitch-filled interview last week on Twitter alongside its owner, Elon Musk.

The widely derided debut came after a 'long phony war' period in which DeSantis visited states and released a campaign-oriented book yet continued to trail the former president in polls for the Republican primary.

Trump is in for unheard-of legal trouble, including charges of making a hush money payment to a porn star, being found liable for sexual assault and defamation, and being indicted for tampering with the election, encouraging the attack on Congress on January 6, and holding onto classified documents.

Trump, nevertheless, continues to have a significant advantage over the competition. DeSantis is trailing 30 points on average behind the former president across different polls.

Democrats and other political analysts believe DeSantis' conservative record, which includes opposition to LGBTQ+ rights, efforts to regulate public school curriculum, looser gun control regulations, and a six-week abortion restriction, will hurt him in the general election.

The governor has lost the support of some crucial contributors due to his high-profile battle with Disney, a significant employer in his state, over Disney's objection to his so-called "Don't Say Gay" law, which forbids the mention of sexual orientation and gender identity in public classrooms.

What do you think about DeSantis' war on "leftism"?
