Florida Governor Ron DeSantis wants to set himself apart from his main GOP nemesis, former President Donald Trump.

DeSantis spotlights his record on immigration and asserts that he is the real conservative, unlike shifty Donald Trump.

DeSantis claims that "this is a different guy than 2015, 2016."

    Who is tougher on immigration?

Additionally, the governor's decision to send more than 1,100 state law enforcement officers and members of the National Guard to Texas' border with Mexico indicates a willingness to break with the former president on a topic that has long been regarded as one of Trump's primary electoral themes.

This past week, the governor's stump speech to South Carolina, New Hampshire, and Iowa voters focused heavily on immigration.

"We are going to shut the border down. We're going to build a border wall. We're going to stop mass migration, and we are going to hold the Mexican drug cartels accountable for the carnage that they have unleashed on this country," DeSantis said.

He went even further earlier this week in Iowa, promoting his contentious migrant flights to Martha's Vineyard.

DeSantis called some migrants "criminal aliens" and alleged that some "are on the terror watchlist."

While DeSantis has been careful not to mention Trump by name in his stump speech, he has highlighted frustration with Trump's failure to keep his promises during his four-year term.

Immigration is still a major campaign issue for Trump. He called for eliminating birthright citizenship in 2015 and 2018, and if elected president again, he promises to execute an executive order to that effect.

Since the beginning of DeSantis' campaign, the Trump team has launched increasingly direct assaults against him, making fun of his clumsy use of Twitter Spaces and even emphasizing how he pronounces his last name.

What do you think about the conflict between DeSantis and Trump?

DeSantis and Trump are the same except, DeSantis has not been indicted yet.....Trump was indicted on 7 counts tonight by the Justice system. It’s time for him to face the music. 😉
