The First Major Endorsement in 2024 Elections – It's Not Who You Think

Following former President Donald Trump's unprecedented second indictment, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received the support of popular Oklahoma Governor Kevin Stitt.

"I'm officially, 100% endorsing Ron DeSantis for president, and we're going to win it in Oklahoma," Stitt assured.

The Oklahoma governor was the first to endorse a presidential bet this election cycle.

DeSantis is a great leader, according to Stitt

He has endorsed DeSantis for president along with 20 other Oklahoma lawmakers.

In Oklahoma's 2022 elections, Stitt defeated his Democratic rival Joy Hofmeister by garnering 55% of the vote.

Stitt brought up the initiatives DeSantis championed while serving as governor, such as immigration, the importance of parents in children's education, and opposition to COVID-19 restrictions.

Stitt said he has "never met a better leader than Ron DeSantis."

DeSantis and Stitt traveled to Ponca City, Oklahoma, to attend a rodeo and mingle with spectators.

Stitt stated there that DeSantis is a "bold leader" and that it is time to move on from Trump to explain why he chose to support him over Trump.

Trump supported Stitt for reelection in November and during the 2022 midterm elections.

Meanwhile, DeSantis has previously criticized Trump for only being able to hold office for one more term, claiming that it "really does take two terms as president to be able to finish this job."

DeSantis has been under fire from Trump on numerous occasions for imposing a lockdown during the early stages of the pandemic and for the deaths from COVID-19 that occurred in the state.

However, Florida's coronavirus fatality rate in 2021 placed it in the middle of the group. And many seem to praise DeSantis for his COVID health policies. The relaxed approach to safety measures has been welcome among conservative voters.
