DeSantis Trashes Trump and Vows to Fix the Supreme Court

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis criticized former President Donald Trump's selections for the Supreme Court and vowed to "do better" than his 2024 opponent in making justice selections.

DeSantis was asked if he would promise to Republican primary voters that his selection of judges would be the same as the "three home runs" that Trump nominated to the Supreme Court.

"Well, I would say we'll do better than that," DeSantis answered.

The Florida governor lauded two justices he thinks are the 'gold standard.'

"I respect the three appointees he did, but none of those three are at the same level of Justices Thomas and Alito," DeSantis added. "I think they are the gold standard, so my justices will be like a Sam Alito and a Clarence Thomas."

While notably avoiding spotlighting Trump's choices, DeSantis has for weeks praised the records of Alito and Thomas, two of the court's most conservative justices who joined the bench before Trump's administration.

Trump's three nominees, namely: Justices Neil Gorsuch, Amy Coney Barrett, and Brett Kavanaugh, caused a 6-3 conservative majority at the Supreme Court, allowing several conservative legal victories, one of those being the controversial overturning of Roe v. Wade and the expanding gun and religious rights. The split is now misrepresenting the democratic will of the United States and enables more conversation choices to pass all the checks and balances, disregarding the will of the people.

When Trump nominated Gorsuch and Barrett, DeSantis had only praise for them.

"If you created a nominee from scratch to fill Scalia's large shoes, such a nominee would look a lot like Neil Gorsuch," DeSantis said in a tweet sometime in January 2017.

However, DeSantis's praise wasn't as high when Trump selected Kavanaugh, who has come to be known as the "median justice" on the Supreme Court.

Just before officially launching his campaign, DeSantis publicly bragged about how he might mold a 7-2 court if elected to two years as president. He had envisioned increasing the conservative majority even further.

What do you think about Trump's Supreme Court choices?
