What DeSantis Plans to Do on His First Day? It's Bolder Than You Think

Florida governor Ron DeSantis promised to declare a national emergency on Day One and shut the border with Mexico.

DeSantis pledged to hold Mexico "accountable" for border crossings if the American people elect him as their president.

He said he would build a border wall, make Mexico accountable, and punish the drug gangs responsible for the destruction that their fentanyl imports are wreaking.

DeSantis has regularly hammered on immigration issues, even while governor of Florida.

Immigration is becoming a huge part of his platform. He's trying to rally people against immigrant causes.

He signed a bill outlawing sanctuary cities during his first year as governor of the Sunshine State. His use of public funds to fly immigrants from the Texas border to Massachusetts and, more lately, California has garnered him widespread media attention.

Additionally, he has advocated for harsh regulations requiring firms to confirm employees' immigration status, toughening regulations he already approved in 2020.

DeSantis has emphasized immigration security in his presidential campaign speeches as he travels to border states. One of the first four states to award delegates for the 2024 Republican presidential nomination is predicted to be Nevada.

As border crossings rise, he has harshly criticized Democratic President Joe Biden. He has even filed a lawsuit against the administration on behalf of Florida.

According to reports, DeSantis encountered a Nevadan electorate looking for alternatives in the primary battle. Should he be elected president, he pledged to be an authoritarian leader.

"What leadership is about is, are you going to be willing to stand strong for what is right in the face of intense opposition and criticism and having the weight of the world come down on you, or are you going to fold and follow the pack?" DeSantis said.
