Prominent Republican funders and billionaires Ken Griffin and Nelson Peltz are reconsidering their plans to support Ron DeSantis' campaign for the US presidency as they said the Florida governor had moved too far to the right.

“As the presidential campaigns unfold, I am assessing how the policies of each candidate will strengthen our democracy,” Griffin said.

People familiar with their ideas say that DeSantis' interventionist measures have discouraged them.

The sources claimed that Griffin is against DeSantis' ongoing battle with Disney and the recent crackdown on teaching about gender and sexuality, while Peltz disagrees with his position on abortion.

DeSantis was widely seen as the contender most suited to take on Donald Trump and lead the Republican party into victory in the presidential elections.

Many are now reconsidering their position. DeSantis is losing ground, his poll numbers are plummeting, and his campaign is facing new challenges.

A withdrawal of supporters, including major Florida taxpayers like hedge fund managers Griffin and Peltz, might hurt the DeSantis campaign even more. The two were anticipated to be among DeSantis' most ardent supporters.

Griffin, one of DeSantis' most powerful supporters who earlier praised his "tremendous record as governor of Florida," contributed $5 million to his 2022 reelection campaign.

But lately, the policy proposals of DeSantis that threaten individual rights and liberties have unnerved the hedge fund manager, according to a person familiar with Griffin.

Peltz, the man of Trian Partners, who resides in Palm Beach, said he is also rethinking his support for Ron DeSantis.

Since DeSantis declared his campaign, Griffin and Peltz have yet to visit with the governor of Florida or give him any financial assistance. This marks a U-turn among the most prominent supporters of the DeSantis campaign.

We're yet to see how far DeSantis will come without financial support from these billionaires.
