Save America spent over $40 million on legal fees to defend former president Donald Trump and his supporters in the first half of 2023.

Trump formed Save America as a political action group and has relied on it since he left the White House.

The amount spent on legal services by the PAC in less than six months—more than $40 million—represents a significant rise over the combined total of over $16 million in 2021 and 2022, as reported in a prior Federal Election Commission filing.

As the New York Times reported in June, the Trump campaign stated in small print earlier this year that it boosted the percentage of supporters' donations delivered to Trump's Save America PAC from 1% to 10%.

Many of the former president's legal expenses were covered by the Republican National Committee before Trump declared his intention to seek reelection in November 2022.

Over the years, Trump has made various claims regarding his net worth. Forbes assessed the former president's net worth as $2.5 billion in May.

Trump has already been indicted on more than 40 counts, and his major legal battles are only getting more serious.

He won't go on trial in the Mar-a-Lago documents case until at least May, and the New York "hush money" case trial won't start until most of March. In both cases, Trump has entered a not guilty plea to all charges.

There may be other charges against the former president.

He claimed on social media that he had received a letter from Jack Smith with information about the inquiry from the January 6 committee and purported efforts to change the results of the 2020 election, and other sources corroborated the post's accuracy.
