Florida Governor Ron DeSantis believes former President Donald Trump lost the 2020 election.

"Of course, he lost," DeSantis said in an interview. "Joe Biden's the president."

DeSantis had previously refrained from making such emphatic claims about Trump's demise.

From the fanboy to the mortal nemesis

Trump's inner circle used to publicly praise DeSantis for pioneering the idea that state legislatures can alter election outcomes in certain areas.

DeSantis has generally avoided inquiries over the validity of the election results in the following years.

Though, he argues that it was not a "perfect election," stating actions made by states to ease voting access because of the pandemic.

The Florida Governor continued criticizing Trump for funding mail-in ballots through the CARES Act, the $2.2 trillion economic stimulus plan passed in 2020 in response to the coronavirus outbreak.

DeSantis neglects to highlight the fact that, upon its passage, he hailed the CARES Act for providing "critical resources" in the struggle against COVID-19.

DeSantis also failed to mention that, as governor, he likewise took independent action to allow local election offices to process mail-in ballots earlier than permitted by state law to address issues with staffing and a rise in remote voting brought on by the coronavirus.

Republican state legislatures elsewhere rejected Democratic pleas to enact comparable laws in states like Pennsylvania, where the protracted ballot-counting process served as the basis for election conspiracies.

He claimed that if Republicans concentrate on "January 6, 2021," they will lose.

However, these issues have taken center stage as Trump faces three criminal indictments over the alleged handling of sensitive documents, hush money payments to adult film star Stormy Daniels, and attempts to rig the 2020 election, all while maintaining an overwhelming lead.
