Trump's Plea to Postpone Fraud Trial Denied by Judge!

Former President Donald Trump's bid to postpone his extensive civil fraud trial was denied by a New York judge, who described it as "completely without merit."

Lawyers representing Trump, his two adult sons, and his businesses had requested the judge to halt the lawsuit for three weeks after he had decided on the opposing applications for summary judgment the day before. Currently, the trial is set to start on October 2.

Judge Arthur Engoron of the New York Supreme Court swiftly denied their request.

"Decline to sign," Engoron wrote. "Defendants' arguments are completely without merit."

The decision puts the trial for Trump, who departed the White House in 2021, on schedule.

The former president is battling for the Republican presidential nomination in 2024 while dealing with several other significant legal issues, including four criminal charges.

In the civil case, Attorney General Letitia James requests $250 million in damages against Trump and his co-defendants for allegedly filing years' worth of false financial statements to obtain better tax benefits and loan terms for the Trump Organization.

Engoron rebuked him one day after James requested the judge to sanction Trump and the other parties in the case for constantly making the same weak legal arguments.

James requested that the judge impose a total fine of $10,000 on each defendant and a further $10,000 on each of their attorneys.

The attorney general requested partial summary judgment against Trump late last month, citing what she called a "mountain of undisputed evidence" to support her claims.

James said in the court filing that Trump's net worth was substantially lower than he had reported every year for a decade, a difference of ”$1 billion or more in all but one year.”
