DeSantis Reveals Stance on Federal Abortion Ban: Shocking Turn!

For the first time, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis was asked if he would support a federal ban on abortions after 15 weeks.

Amid the chaotic Republican primary debate's crosstalk, DeSantis responded to Sen. Tim Scott for a brief period.

Since entering the presidential race, DeSantis has refrained from making this vow, which has occasionally earned him harsh criticism from a leading anti-abortion group.

Instead, DeSantis has focused his campaign on Florida's six-week abortion ban, which he passed earlier this year, implying that other states may adopt various strategies depending on their political climates.

DeSantis, meanwhile, has made abortion the center of his efforts to strike a breach between former President Donald Trump and the conservative base, particularly in Iowa, as his window of opportunity to gain ground in the GOP presidential nomination race is dwindling.

Right after DeSantis suggested Trump should defend his remarks that some Republican states had adopted "terrible" limitations on the procedure, Scott, a Republican from South Carolina, entered the conversation.

Scott intervened quickly to challenge DeSantis, adding, "But would you support (inaudible) a 15-week limit?"

Off camera, DeSantis said he would.

In a recent interview, DeSantis showed his willingness to support a federal ban.

"I've said this from the beginning of this, as president, you put pro-life legislation on my desk, I'm going to look favorably and support the legislation," DeSantis said.

Trump has privately blamed the GOP's recent electoral losses on the party's anti-abortion push after Roe v. Wade's demise.

He recently called Florida's ban "a terrible thing and a terrible mistake," a remark DeSantis has seized on as he attempts to win over evangelical and anti-abortion voters in Iowa.

In contrast, Trump has said he is willing to compromise with Democrats on abortion to find "peace on that issue."

What are your thoughts on DeSantis' change in stance regarding a federal abortion ban after 15 weeks?
