    Pedestrian struck, killed by dump truck in Tooele

    UPDATE, 4:27 p.m.: The victim in this crash has been identified as a male in his late 50s. He was reportedly riding a bicycle at the time of the collision.

    “Officers arrived to the scene within a minute of the call being dispatched, but due to injuries sustained by the bicyclist, he had already passed away,” a release from Tooele Police states.

    Southbound traffic reportedly was closed for around two and a half hours while officers investigated the crash. The road has since reopened.

    “This is still an active investigation in its early stages,” police said. “We extend our deepest condolences to the victim of this accident.”

    No further information is available at this time.


    ORIGINAL STORY: TOOELE, Utah ( ABC4 ) — A pedestrian was struck and killed by a dump truck in Tooele Friday afternoon, according to Tooele Police .

    The crash occurred at 975 North Main Street at around 1:20 p.m. on July 19, according to Cpl. Colbey Bentley, Tooele PD.

    While details are limited at this time, the pedestrian was killed in the crash. No other injuries reportedly occurred.

    The driver of the dump truck remained on scene and is cooperating with police.

    SR-36 in the southbound direction is currently closed. Northbound is experiencing delays, police said.

    The cause of the crash is under investigation at this time.
