Mrs. Brenda Langley, Toombs Central Community
Mrs. Brenda Langley Thursby, age 66, of the Toombs Central Community, died Wednesday, July 10, 2024, at Memorial Health Meadows Hospital in Vidalia, after a sudden illness. She was a native of Astor, Florida and lived there and central Florida until moving to Toombs County in 1990. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse working with the Health Department as a home care nurse in both Vidalia and Baxley. She was a member of Liberty Baptist Church and was a part of the Widow’s Group. She enjoyed redbirds, hummingbirds, fishing, crocheting, and baking. She is preceded in death by her husband, Gordon Thursby, Jr.; her parents Leon Dalton Langley and Vera Irene North; and infant brother, Thomas Langley.

1 person dead, driver arrested after pedestrian vs. vehicle wreck in Vidalia
TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - A pedestrian is dead, and a driver has been arrested after a wreck in Vidalia, according to the Toombs County Sheriff’s Office. Toombs County 911 Dispatch received a call for a wreck involving a white semi-truck with a flatbed trailer and a pedestrian near the intersection of U.S. Highway 1 south and CH Slayton Road around 2 p.m. Friday. When deputies arrived, they found the vehicle parked on the shoulder of the northbound lane. They also found 44-year-old William Hadlock of Jesup laying in the middle of the roadway. He sustained traumatic injuries and later died at the scene.
Man charged in 2015 Toombs Co. murder dies at Dooly State Prison
TOOMBS COUNTY, Ga. (WTOC) - An inmate who was serving time for a murder in Toombs County has died at Dooly State Prison. Carlito Soldiew-Acosta was charged with murder in the death of Marie Warnock in Lyons. Warnock was found dead near her car outside of Chatters Restaurant in 2015.
Elite safety has ‘main three’ coming out of official visit to Tennessee
Lagonza Hayward has had as one of his top schools for much of his recruitment, but the competition has heated up for the elite safety prospect this month as he took official visits to four SEC rivals. The standout at Toombs County High School in Lyons, Ga., said his focus is on three of them as he eyes a decision date on his birthday next month. Hayward is no stranger to Tennessee having been to campus multiple times this year, and he again felt like a priority when the Vols hosted him this weekend.
Toombs County Murderer Found Dead in Prison Cell
An inmate who was found dead in his cell at least one day after he died in Dooly State Prison in Unadilla had ties to the Lyons and Vidalia communities. Dooly County Coroner James Hudson confirmed that Carlito Omar Soldiew-Acosta was found in his isolation cell last Saturday and had been deceased for at least 24 hours if not longer.
