TOPEKA ( KSNT ) – The Topeka Fire Department published its second quarter report for 2024.
This quarter the fire department worked a total of 6,038 calls. City spokeswoman Taylor Bugg said calls were slightly up this quarter. Of those calls, 302 were structure fires.
Bugg also said fire inspections were dramatically up due to implementing a new software that helps improve efficiency. In the first quarter, the fire department conducted 528 inspections, this quarter they’ve nearly doubled the number of fire inspections.
“Additionally, we are doing a much better job of tracking all activities of the inspections division,” Bugg said. “All city burn permits expire December 31 st , so the first quarter of every year has the largest demand for burn permits.”
“A big kudos to all our crews at all twelve stations, in the Fire Prevention division, and at the Fire Administration building,” the fire department wrote in a social media post .
