When will Ta Co. in downtown Topeka open its doors? It's almost here.

Topeka's newest downtown food attraction is near completion and ready to open its doors.

Ta Co., 735 S. Kansas Ave., will be a two-story restaurant lounge, with the first and second floors featuring bar and dining and a roof-deck with dining and a serving station.

Ta Co. first served as a hub in Lawrence, 801 Massachusetts St., but closed its doors in 2022 to relocate to the downtown Topeka location.

"We're fully committed to investing in downtown Topeka," Seth Wagoner, CEO of Aim Strategies LLC told The Capital-Journal in early February ." All of our investments, for the most part, in Topeka have been downtown. This is something we're excited about."

The restaurant is expected to open Aug. 5.

When will Ta Co. officially open its doors?

"Just 8 days left until Ta Co. opens its doors," a Ta Co. post read at noon on its business Facebook page July 28.

"Ta Co. opens a week from tomorrow. It's going to be a great addition," said Cody Foster, Ta Co. owner and founder of Aim Strategies, in a post on X, formerly known as Twitter, on July 28.

The Capital-Journal reached out to Ta Co. for comment on the new opening. Ta Co. didn't respond.

Is the Ta Co. in West Ridge Mall still open?

Ta Co. announced on its business Facebook page on July 15 that it would close its West Ridge Mall location.

"We are shifting our focus to opening our new downtown location and have decided to temporarily close our mall location effective today," the post said. "After we open downtown, we’ll figure out very soon when or if we will open the mall location back up."

How long had construction been going on for Ta Co.?

The project is a $3 million investment in the downtown area and the buildout was expected to be an eight- to nine-month project, Wagoner said. Wagoner said he hoped it would've been "ready to roll" in July or August 2023.

Demolition of the previous building began in December 2022. In August 2022, the city planning department had determined that there were no "feasible and prudent alternatives to demolishing the structure." The building was in the South Kansas Avenue Commercial Historic District.
