With Election Day approaching, political candidates have filed new campaign finance reports with the Kansas Governmental Ethics Commission .

Candidates who receive or spend more than $1,000 must file a report. If they spend or receive less than that, they must file an affidavit instead.

The new reports cover Jan. 1 to July 25 and were due July 29. Another report on "last-minute contributions" covering July 26 through July 31 is due Aug. 1.

The reports include data on total contributions and other receipts during the period, total expenditures and other disbursements during the period and cash on hand at the close of the period, among other data.

Here's what to know about campaign finance reports from candidates for Topeka seats in the Kansas Legislature and Kansas State Board of Education.
