Federal grand jury charges short seller Andrew Left in $16M stock manipulation scheme
A federal grand jury in California has charged short seller Andrew Left with multiple counts of securities fraud for a $16 million stock market manipulation scheme. The Department of Justice said in a statement on Friday that Left, who was a securities analyst, trader, and guest commentator on television channels including CNBC and Fox Business, is charged with one count of engaging in a securities fraud scheme, 17 counts of securities fraud, and one count of making false statements to federal investigators. As a short seller, Left would make money betting stocks would fall. The Justice Department said that Left conducted business under the name Citron Research, which had a website that published investment recommendations. He published research on companies ranging from Tesla and GameStop to Grand Canyon Education and Peloton. If convicted, Left faces a maximum penalty of 25 years in prison on the securities fraud scheme count, 20 years in prison on each securities fraud count, and five years in prison on the false statements count.
Aliza Nisenbaum to open exhibition at Regen Projects

The exhibition will feature a new body of work depicting dance troupes, studios, and teachers local to Southern California, including Teresita de Jesús of Studio 10, Folklorico Revolución, Mariachi Tierra Mia, and Amelia Muñoz Dancers. Informed by her origins in Mexico and prior work with immigrant and diasporic communities, Nisenbaum’s lively compositions exemplify the artist’s dedication to fostering connection and community in the space of painting. On Saturday, September 21, at 5 pm, Amelia Muñoz Dancers will activate Nisenbaum’s presentation with a public dance lesson.

Researchers at the University of Southern California are developing a way to accurately forecast how a fire will spread using artificial intelligence.The model combines AI with real-time satellite data."There are models that are based on physics that you can use to forecast the progression of a wildfire, where a wildfire is going to go," said Assad Oberai, the study's co-author. Matt Sieg is one of the top recruits in the WPIAL, regardless of class, and he’s continuing to rack up major offers. Sieg — a 6-foot, 170-pound four-star athlete from Fort Cherry in McDonald, Pa. — holds offers from Akron, Minnesota, Nebraska, Penn State, Pitt, Syracuse, WVU and Wisconsin, and he’s playing quarterback and defensive back at the high school level. A recent legal filing has revealed a string of allegations against Christina Hall, the star of the HGTV series Christina on the Coast, and her estranged husband, Josh Hall. According to a court filing, Hall claims that Josh made unscheduled visits to their shared home in Newport Beach, California, and allegedly took items from the property. She further alleges that Josh plugged in security cameras that she had previously unplugged, which she believes was done at the request of his lawyer to preserve “electronic evidence.”
