TORRINGTON, Conn. (WTNH) — No injuries were reported after Connecticut State Police officials say a bear on Route 8 was struck by three separate cars on Sunday.

Troopers were dispatched to the scene near Exit 45 on Route 8 in Torrington just before 9 p.m.

An investigation showed the three vehicles could not avoid striking the 492 pound bear, which had run into the roadway.

The bear was deceased when troopers arrived, and wildlife biologists from the Department of Energy and Environmental Protection collected the animal.

Officials said at least one vehicle had to be towed from the scene and roughly 30 feet of the Department of Transportation’s wire rope guardrail was damaged in the area.
