Matt Brown Explains Purpose of Life to Tony Ferguson
2024-08-07
UFC fighter Matt Brown, who went through the same situation as Tony Ferguson, has commented on Ferguson's possible retirement. Tony Ferguson is one of the best fighters in the UFC of all time. Ferguson is now 40 years old, and he is looking forward to retiring because of recent unexpected events. Ferguson put down his one glove after the fight against Michael Chiesa.
This was Ferguson's eighth straight loss. Ferguson wasn't able to continue, and he lost by submission. Brown shows unity with Ferguson as he knows about the difficulties Tony has to go through now. But at the end of the day, we all know that every athlete and every player has to reach this bitter truth.
Matt Brown Shows Sympathy
Brown, a former athlete, made the same decision a few months ago as Tony Ferguson. But Ferguson has to go through more as he had an extraordinary prime, and after that prime, his body started to become weak and he started to lose. "Look, when you lose eight in a row, it doesn’t matter where you’re at in your career — that’s pretty much OK; you should probably call it quits"
Brown talks about the high one gets from winning in the UFC. There are a lot of stages that a fighter goes through, and if he surpasses those stages, fighters like Ferguson and Matt Brown arise. Brown understands that happiness but that is temporary.
As a result of that comfort and joy they got earlier after winning, the fighters are constantly in search of that feeling each time they compete. But one of the stages of every career is retirement.
Life After Fighting Career
The big difference is that winning the UFC gives such a special feeling that is very difficult to replicate. The UFC is very different from other sports because you always have greater chances of suffering serious damage, from getting paralyzed to having broken body parts. But when you overcome those situations, it's a different feeling.
And this is the reason, many fighters have trouble letting it go. "It’s like a drug. That’s what walking into an octagon and beating another man’s a** feels like, especially the way Tony did, where he just f*cking ripped people’s souls out of their bodies. That is a high you cannot get anywhere else, in any other way".
But now things have changed, and the great Tony Ferguson has gotten old. As Brown said, "But you can’t chase that. You’ve got to accept that was the season of your life, and it’s time to move onto a new season."
New Purpose of Life
Brown has found a new purpose in life. He is now coaching and training new champions for the upcoming era. He recently opened his Gym, which he renovated to make it more professional. He also found another purpose in life and celebrated an anniversary after his retirement.
Now, obviously, that is not what every fighter should do or has to do. There are millions of different things for a fighter to do after he retires. But Matt Brown has made his advice clear to Ferguson that he should now look for something that he fits in and find his purpose in life. "Now, if you are just a fighter, then that’s fine. Go out there and keep fighting and fight until you die. I have nothing against that. But for me, I found a lot more."
