Aditi Ashok Eyes Olympic Gold In Paris

With the Paris Olympics around the corner, Indian golfers Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar are geared up for the international golf arena. Aditi who competed in the Tokyo Olympics and was close to clinching a medal is ready to go again.

Diksha is now a second-time Olympian, and she has had to battle personal issues such as a car accident recently. Both golfers are participating in this tournament out of 60 players, which are among the world’s best including Lydia Ko and Nelly Korda. How will they fare?

Aditi Ashok and Diksha Dagar Gear Up

Aditi Ashok is keen on making amends for a fourth-place finish at the Tokyo Olympics. Aditi will be eager to grab her Olympic opportunity at the Paris Olympics. Besides her, Diksha Dagar will also be making her debut after she overcame the shock of a recent car accident.

Thus both the golfers will be able to represent India with a new enthusiasm. Aditi, who has represented India in two Olympics, was so close to clinching a medal in Tokyo. Now, she wants to be redeemed in Paris. Diksha, who has had her fair share of troubles in her life such as a car accident that led to her mother being admitted to the hospital, is determined to become an Olympic medalist.

The women’s golf competition will consist of 60 players, out of which 15 players have played in the Olympics series since the game was included in the Olympics in 2016. Aditi is part of this experienced team, although Diksha will be participating for the second time in the Olympics.

Ashok and Diksha Dagar’s Schedule and Background:

Aditi will begin her campaign with Gaby Lopez of Mexico and Esther Henseleit of Germany and they will tee off at 9:22 AM local time and 12:52 PM IST. Diksha will be paired with Wei-Ling Hsu of Chinese Taipei and Emma Spitz from Austria, their round will start at 10:55 am.

The tournament is from Wednesday to Saturday. Aditi Ashok, the winner of the 2016 Hero Women’s Indian Open and the one who has five LET titles to her name, is yet to secure her maiden LPGA triumph. Although she did not clinch any medal, she received a hero’s welcome in India for narrowly missing out on a medal in Tokyo.

Diksha who has featured in both the Deaflympics and the main Olympic games, qualified for Paris through the 2023 and 2024 performances. Her family car accident that put her mother in the hospital became a scare for her. Fortunately, Diksha and her father, who works as a caddy for her, were not injured and her mother is out of danger.

Top Golfers and Key Matchups for Paris 2024:

Aditi has been playing on the LPGA Tour and recently finished T22 at the Portland Classic. In Paris, her father Ashok will be her caddy as he did in 2016 while in Tokyo her mother Maheshwari caddied for her.

Some of the leading golfers to grace the Paris Olympics are Jin Young Ko, Lydia Ko, Nelly Korda, and Minjee Lee among others. Ko is a two-time medalist and is eyeing her third medal, her first gold. Minjee Lee is in her third Olympic appearance and her brother Min Woo Lee played in his first Olympics last week.

Celine Boutier will compete for France alongside Perrine Delacour. Boutier also had a good 2023 year, which included a major championship victory at The Amundi Evian Championship. More so, the Paris Games will be contested in a highly competitive environment with the Olympics as the ultimate prize for golfers.
