Baltimore Orioles: Rookie Jackson Holliday Makes History

The Baltimore Orioles trailed 3-2 against the Toronto Blue Jays entering the seventh inning on Wednesday night. Jackson Holliday hit the go-ahead two-run home run and the Orioles never looked back and won the game 7-3. Holliday is only 20 years old. He is the youngest player in American League history to have homered in three consecutive games. Jackson Holliday is currently one of the hottest hitters in the Baltimore Orioles lineup.

This Is Only the Beginning

When Holliday was called up to the big leagues for the first time, many people thought he was going to produce right away. He did not produce right away and the Orioles decided to send him back down to the minor leagues. Jackson Holliday performed better in Triple-A with the Norfolk Tides. He was recalled back to the big leagues and then has been much better in the lineup for Baltimore. Over the last three games, Holliday has recorded four hits, three home runs, and four RBIs.

He has had 58 at-bats this season for the Orioles. Jackson Holliday has hit four home runs and 11 RBIs, along with zero stolen bases. His on-base percentage is .254. Holliday is currently batting in the bottom of the lineup. Maybe in 2025 and beyond, he could be a future leadoff hitter for the Orioles. Gunnar Henderson, Anthony Santander, and Adley Rutschman are the key players in the Baltimore Orioles lineup. If Baltimore were to make a deep run in the postseason, Holliday could play a big role in it.

He is currently playing second base for the Orioles. One of the reasons why Jackson Holliday was recalled from the minors this season is because Jordan Westburg was injured. Westburg also played a huge role for Baltimore in the lineup this season. He was playing third base for Baltimore. He is only 25 years old. Westburg was one of the Orioles All-Star players this season. Westburg had a .269 batting average with 18 home runs and 58 RBIs, along with six stolen bases and a .814 OPS.

If they can get him back before the postseason, it would be huge for them. Coby Mayo was also recently called up from the minor leagues. Mayo is another player in the Baltimore Orioles system who has been hitting well. He is also off to a slow start. Many thought that Coby Mayo and Jackson Holliday were going to be traded at the MLB trade deadline. Thank goodness the Orioles fanbase didn’t have to see any of them traded. Holliday is a future star in this league and there is a reason why he was ranked the top prospect in all of baseball.
