Theekshana: India’s Favorable Wickets and Boundaries

The young spinner Theekshana enabled Sri Lanka to make history by conquering India for an ODI series that had three matches. With that, he notched a spectacular performance in this series. Capping off the win fairly for the team, as it was their first-ever win against India in an ODI series after 27 years.

What a roller-coaster ODI series! The first game was tied, and the way it ended was heart-stopping. Sri Lanka won the second by 32 runs to make it a must-win third game. And in the final match, he had taken two vital wickets and contributed in no small manner to Sri Lanka thumping their opponents by 110 runs.

In a post-match conference, Theekshana shared some insights into the series. He said that India usually plays on good wickets, with small boundaries. So, it is the total opposite of the situation at Premadasa Stadium in Colombo. The spinner mentioned that the ball turned a lot from the Premadasa wicket, which favored the home team, Sri Lanka.

“Normally, the conditions in India are very different from what we have here,” analyzed Theekshana. “They play on good wickets with smaller boundaries, while we are used to pitches like at Premadasa, where more turn is there, so that gave us an edge through this—we have good spinners in our ranks.” He said that the victory was a great confidence booster for Sri Lanka. The team was thrashed 3-0 in the T20I series right before this. He said this win in the ODI series was a big achievement and added to the morale of the entire squad.

This win is a massive confidence booster for me, Theekshana said. We got a little bit disappointed after the T20 series, but we used that as motivation. This is a big deal for us because a win in a series like this has not happened for Sri Lanka since 1997. Theekshana noted that Rohit Sharma tried to put pressure on him by attacking early on. Despite Sharma’s efforts, Theekshana managed to make crucial breakthroughs. He also praised his teammates for their collective effort in securing the victory.

Theekshana Praises Team in Historic ODI Win

Theekshana acknowledged the good work of his teammates. Asitha gave a very good start, picking up the wicket of Shubman Gill, and Wellalage was outstanding. Vandersay did a great job too; Hasaranga and Akila bowled economically throughout, he mentioned. It was a good team performance, and everyone chipped in to do something towards this win.

This win in the series was particularly historic for the Lankans, as it marked their first ODI series victory against India since 1997. Theekshana’s performance and for the team shall go down in cricketing history. With that victory, Sri Lanka not only corrected its poor performance in the just-finished T20I series but also created a high-grade benchmark for upcoming competitions. It was really interesting to see the team’s capability to suit themselves to different conditions and work in harmony.
