Bethesda Leaks Revealed in Gamescom 2024 Run-Up

Gamescom 2024 is right around the corner, and the rumor mill is churning at full speed, latching onto multiple Bethesda leaks and any other scraps of information Bethesda and Microsoft have let slip. With Gamescom being the largest annual gaming event, it's a safe bet that major publishers, Bethesda included, will have a lot to show audiences. Between announcements, leaks, and internet-sleuth speculation, there's a lot to digest, and hopefully a lot to look forward to.

Definitely on the Docket

In their July 2024 Showcase, Xbox announced or updated news on a variety of titles, with a number of Bethesda releases taking the forefront.

Doom: The Dark Ages was revealed with an excellent gameplay trailer showcasing a drool-inducing array of new weapons and...vehicles? They've got a demon mech and a semi-tame hell dragon, bold new complications of the loop-heavy gameplay that has made the Doom reboot such a smashing success. The only hard info offered there was "coming 2025". Dropping more information at Gamescom seems likely.

Starfield: Shattered Space, was also announced in the Xbox showcase, with a general 2024 release date given. The gameplay and cinematics that were shared highlighted a very linear, story-driven experience that may offer up some new ways to interact with the expansive Starfield environment.

Bethesda Leaks Hit Starfield Update

Recent Bethesda leaks on 4chan claimed that anticipated Starfield buggies would be included in the game's next update. The leak is unconfirmed but did contain an image showing a Starfield vehicle matching the ones featured in legitimate development videos released earlier this year. Buggies will have open and closed variants (offering varying degrees of player protection), traditional and vertical boosters, and the capacity to carry companions. They'll also be indestructible and able to be spawned on visited planets.

Some commentators are speculating that the vehicle update will be a surprise release for Gamescom. Repeat Bethesda leaks peddler Odahfield has stated that Shattered Space will be released in September, with the buggies coming in August.

Other Bethesda Releases

Fallout 76 has also promised to add the ability to play as a ghoul sometime early in 2025, in addition to their Milepost Zero DLC, which is currently available to play in a limited capacity.

The forthcoming Indiana Jones and the Great Circle still lacks a firm release date, and its recently teased cinematic and gameplay footage raised some questions about the game's current state. Speculation about a possible delay until 2025 has yet to be put to rest.

Microsoft at Gamescom

Bethesda's parent company, Microsoft, has announced a significant Gamescom presence, with hands-on play available for over fifty different games, including major upcoming titles the new Fallout 76 DLC, and The Elder Scrolls Online: Gold Road.

They've also announced that Indiana Jones: The Great Circle will get a theater presentation, seemingly indicating that it is not ready for players to try out at the conference.

With the games industry in significant turmoil, and studios across the Microsoft ecosystem having suffered recent cuts, cancellations, and closures, the company is likely looking for a strong conference presence to boost confidence in its upcoming roster. While the Bethesda leaks might indicate weak security around production, the hype they generate could be worth the trouble. The major releases on both Bethesda's and Microsoft's horizons are sure to draw significant attention and speculation through the crucial holiday season and into 2025.
