Avatar Announced For Disney’s California Adventure At D23

The world of Avatar is coming to Disney’s California Adventure. One of the most anticipated panels of D23 is the Disney Parks and Experiences panel. Historically, this has been where they have announced some of their biggest projects. This year is especially intriguing. There are many questions about the future of the parks, as nothing new has been announced in a while. Their main rival, Universal, is opening up a state-of-the-art third gate, which promises to excite theme park fans. The first announcement of the night brings a fan-favorite land from the East Coast to the West Coast.

    Avatar At Disney’s California Adventure

Pandora: The World of Avatar has been a smash hit in Walt Disney World. Fans have marveled over the construction of the land especially at night when the bioluminescent rocks and plants are on full display. The attractions have also been very popular. Flight of Passage is one of the most thrilling experiences in the world. Riders experience what it is like to be on the back of the mighty Ikran while traversing around the alien world.

Josh D’Amaro showed the concept art for Disney’s California Adventure version. While we know very little details, there are some things to point out in the art. First, the land looks to be different than the Walt Disney World version. While the land is still Pandora, it isn’t an exact copy. The experiences look rather similar. There will likely be a slow-moving dark ride that takes guests through a part of the planet. The concept art hints at a thrill ride, but it’s hard to discern anything from the first look.

    Good Move?

The Walt Disney Company is expanding Avatar at the right time. After the box office success of the first movie, the second movie also did quite well. In an earlier panel, a first look was given for the third movie in the franchise. A total of five are scheduled to be made. This means that people will be immersed in the world of Pandora a lot in the next five to ten years. It makes sense to give people the option to go visit the planet for themselves. The success of the Walt Disney World version also likely played a factor.

This is one of many announcements that happened at D23. For those on the West Coast who are massive fans of the James Cameron movie, this is very exciting news.
