Monsters Inc. Land Coming To Walt Disney World

Monsters Inc. is one of the most popular Pixar franchises. Since premiering in 2001, the movie captured the hearts of many. The franchise has spawned a sequel, a Disney+ show, and many theme park rides. However, none of the rides have been in the domestic parks. The international parks have gotten experiences centered around best friends Mike and Sulley, but nothing in Florida or California. That is about the change. At D23, it was announced that Monstoroplis was coming to Walt Disney World.

Monsters Inc. Land In Walt Disney World

The expansion will be going in Disney’s Hollywood Studios. This already houses another Pixar-themed area, Toy Story Land. In the past, Hollywood Studios hosted Pixar Fest and was the hub for all things Pixar. Josh D’Amaro shared concept art at the Disney Parks and Experiences panel at D23. Fans of the movie will recognize the location that is being built. The early concept art shows the outside of Monsters Inc., where Sulley and Mike work in the first movie.

Guests will be able to enter the workplace for a new attraction that promises to be a thrilling experience. Concept art was also shown for a coaster themed around the doors scene in the first movie. Guests are riding what looks to be a scream canister-themed ride vehicle as they soar past the thousands of doors that inhabit the back room of the power company. Scott Gustin, who attended the panel, posted this quote from the presentation on X.

“You’ll go into the factory and experience the first suspended coaster ever in a Disney park. Remember in the movie how those claws grab the doors and hoist them up into the air to take them away? We’re doing that, too. And you’re going along for the ride.”

Timetable?

No timetable was given for the opening. D’Amaro did reveal that work on the Monsters Inc. land will begin next year but he did not say when things would be completed. This could make fans nervous about whether it is actually happening but at the beginning of the panel, the head of parks and experiences assured fans that every announcement was actively in development. Since this is a massive undertaking and there are so many other new things being built as well, the company likely wants to prioritize something like Tropical Americas, which has a date of 2027.

This is a great addition to Walt Disney World. Fans of the franchise have been longing to see the citizens of Monstropolis in a domestic park, and they finally get it. The coaster sounds awesome and will satiate the thrill seekers at the Disney parks.
