Warframe: 'The Lotus Eaters' Set To Release August 21

Warframe is one of the most popular free-to-play games out there. The game's momentum is still strong with consistently high player counts and huge annual events such as Tennocon. Coming August 21, Warframe will release a brand new update titled 'The Lotus Eaters'. This update will consist of a short prologue quest to the highly anticipated 'Warframe: 1999' along with a new Prime Warframe and other goodies. This title raises eyebrows, though, as it implies something big will happen to our beloved guide, the Lotus. After years of trying to save her from Ballas and the Sentients' manipulations, she may be caught up in another scandal.

Lotus Eaters In Greek Mythology

Homer, a Greek philosopher who is rumored to have written The Odyssey in around 750 B.C., briefly mentioned a tribe of Lotus Eaters in his epic. The Lotus Eaters were a tribe of island people who feasted on lotus flowers. The plant would create narcotic effects on whoever ingested it, and it made the island people notoriously forgetful, unmotivated, and lazy.

Homer details that the crew in The Odyssey stumbled across this island and a few shipmates ate the fruit. Odysseus had to drag his soldiers back onto the ship to continue their quest. From this story and the implications surrounding it, Lotus Eaters are summarized as people who prefer to spend the day indulging in pleasure and luxury.

What This Means For The Lotus

It is unclear whether the Lotus herself will be the Lotus Eater or if it's The Indifference, but either way, things are not looking good for our surrogate space mom. The Lotus has been in the background ever since the release of 'The Angels Of The Zariman', which is in stark contrast to her major role in most of the prior quests. After our up-close-and-personal encounter with The Man in the Wall, the Lotus has been in an amnestic state, and she's talked about not knowing who she is anymore. She claims nothing is wrong, but with this new upcoming release, we should be able to confirm or deny this claim.

'The Lotus Eaters' Coming August 21

'The Lotus Eaters' is dropping in just a couple of weeks. This update will contain a small cinematic quest that will bridge the gap between the present day and 'Warframe: 1999', an update coming to Warframe in the Winter of 2024. Coming with it is the release of Sevagoth Prime with his signature Epitaph Prime and loyal companion, Nautilus Prime. He will also be releasing with a unique Signa. Also in this update will be a few new pieces of Tennogen skins and a host of bug fixes. Will the Lotus return to her duties as our main guide, or will the Lotus Eaters consume her mind?
