Boston Celtics: Jayson Tatum Talks About the 2028 Olympics

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum had a limited role for Team U.S.A. en route to another Gold Medal in the 2024 Paris Olympics against Team France. Tatum was the best player on the Celtics throughout the 2023-2024 NBA season. Jayson Tatum was joined by other two teammates on the roster for the Olympics and they were Derrick White and Jrue Holiday. Jaylen Brown was not on the roster this time around and maybe he will in 2028. Will Jayson Tatum be on Team U.S.A. four years from now?

He Has No Plans To Quit the Team

Boston Celtics superstar Jayson Tatum has no plans to not be on the roster for the 2028 Olympics in Los Angeles, California. The roster for this team is going to look a lot different in four years from now than it did here. Lebron James, Kevin Durant, and Steph Curry will most likely not be on the roster four years from now. Jayson Tatum told ESPN’s Brian Windhorst:

“It was a tough personal experience on the court, but I’m not going to make any decision off emotions. If you asked me right now if I was going to play in 2028 — it is four years from now and I [would have] to take time and think about that. So I’m not going to make any decision based off how this experience was or how I felt individually.”

It was a shock that U.S.A. head coach Steve Kerr did not play Jayson Tatum against Serbia and also had limited minutes in other games. Kerr is the head coach of the Golden State Warriors. Many people, including Draymond Green, criticized his rotations. Who knows if Kerr will be the head coach for this team in Los Angeles? It is possible that UCONN Huskies head coach Dan Hurley could be the head coach for Team U.S.A. in the 2028 Olympics. Tatum will be one of the star players for this team. Anthony Edwards of the Minnesota Timberwolves will also be a star. Jalen Brunson and Jaylen Brown could also be on the team. Tatum also added:

“A lot of people text me and reached out and said ‘Make sure this fuels you,’ which I appreciate. There’s a lot of people that care about me. I think the tough part is yes, you can use things to fuel you, but I’m still human.”

The 2024-2025 season in the NBA is going to fuel Jayson Tatum to go back-to-back. Boston went 16-3 last postseason and won its 18th title in franchise history. They will be one of the betting favorites to win it all in 2024-2025. Last season, he averaged 26.9 PPG, 8.1 RPG, and 4.9 APG. Tatum also shot 47.1% from the field. Jayson Tatum will look to win his first MVP this season. Jaylen Brown won Finals MVP last year. There is no question that Tatum will have the Golden State Warriors games circled on his calendar this season. He should be one of the star players for Team U.S.A. in the 2028 Olympics, but until then, he has some unfinished business to take care of.
