New York Giants: Three Candidates For A 1,000-Yard Season

The New York Giants received great injury news about their rookie and first-round Wide Receiver Malik Nabers this week. Nabers, who left the Giants training camp practice on Sunday with an ankle injury, was not a serious injury according to Head Coach Brian Daboll as Nabers is listed as day-to-day. This is a huge relief for the Giants as they hope Nabers can bring his elite pass-catching and elite route running to the NFL as he did at LSU.

The Giants understandably have high hopes for the sixth overall pick in this past year's draft as Nabers is looking to be the first Giants wide receiver to have a 1,000-yard season since 2018. While expectations for that kind of season for Nabers are high, these three wide receivers for the New York Giants who are not Malik Nabers can also capture that feat.

    Darius Slayton

There can be a great argument made that when the New York Giants drafted Wide Receiver Darius Slayton in the fifth round out of Auburn in 2019, he was a steal. He played like that his rookie season as he had 740 yards on 48 receptions and eight touchdowns in 2019. While injuries and inconsistencies have held him back after that surprise rookie campaign, Slayton could turn some heads this season.

Slayton had two good years in 2022 and in 2023 as he had over 700 receiving yards in both campaigns. Last year especially, he set a career-high with 770 yards as he even had a career-best 80-yard touchdown catch. It was impressive to see Slayton play well last season even without starting Quarterback Daniel Jones.

Despite questions about where he might fit on this Giants offense with the addition of the aforementioned Nabers, Slayton has been considered a favorite target for Jones. Don't sleep on Darius Slayton in 2024, this is a very underrated receiving corps and Slayton has a chance to prove that this year by targeting a potential 1,000-yard season.

    Jalin Hyatt

Is a Jalin Hyatt breakout season coming in 2024? It is certainly possible as the Giants are hoping for big things out of their wide receiver who New York drafted in the third round last year out of Tennessee. It was not however the rookie year he or the New York Giants envisioned as he had no touchdowns on 23 receptions for 373 yards. But do not be surprised that in his sophomore season, Hyatt becomes an elite wideout for this Giants offense.

Hyatt having no touchdowns during his rookie season was disappointing, Hyatt still had many great moments in 2023 that showed he can be a special playmaker for the Giants on their offense. Hyatt's best game in the NFL last season came against the New England Patriots in Week 12 when he had his first 100-yard game as he had 109 yards on five catches. The Giants are hoping and expecting that he can replicate that in year two.

After all, Hyatt did post a 1,000-yard season in his last season at Tennessee in 2022 as he had over 1,200 yards and 13 touchdowns. There is no reason he can't do that in the NFL. He's also had a great training camp which could be a sign of things to come.

    Wan'Dale Robinson

Just like Hyatt, the Giants have high expectations out of Wide Receiver Wan'Dale Robinson as the former second round pick has not had an ideal start to his NFL career. From nagging knee injuries, one of them being a torn ACL, he's had a hard time staying healthy. If he stays healthy in 2024 and plays like he did down the stretch last season for the Giants, New York's slot receiver can shock the league in 2024.

Toward the end of last season for the New York Giants, Robinson showed just how good he could be for them if he just stayed healthy. His best game last season was in Week 14 against the Green Bay Packers when put up a season-high 115 total yards and had a huge catch in the final seconds of that game that set up the game-winning field goal for the Giants. Can he do that for an entire year now?

On the year, he had 60 receptions for 525 receiving yards which was a step in the right direction for Robinson. The New York Giants know just how good he can be for them if he can just stay healthy. A 1,000-yard season for Robinson should not be impossible for him this year.
