Boston Celtics: Open Up the 2024-2025 Season Against the New York Knicks

The Boston Celtics ended the 2023-2024 season with winning the NBA title against the Dallas Mavericks. Boston went 16-3 in the playoffs last year and won a franchise-record 18th title. The Celtics are looking to win another title this year. According to Shams Charnia of The Athletic, the Boston Celtics will open up the NBA season on October 22 against the New York Knicks and raise the banner then. The other NBA game that night will be the Minnesota Timberwolves and the Los Angeles Lakers.

Potential Eastern Conference Finals Preview

A season ago, the New York Knicks were the number two seed in the Eastern Conference and the Boston Celtics were the number one seed. Many thought that the Knicks had a great chance to beat the Celtics in the playoffs. The only problem was New York lost to the Indiana Pacers in seven games in the second round of the NBA playoffs. The New York Knicks had a 2-0 series lead in that series. This year, maybe the Knicks and the Celtics could meet in the Eastern Conference Finals.

New York made some roster adjustments in the offseason to try and compete with the Celtics. They acquired Mikal Bridges in a trade from the Brooklyn Nets. Bridges is reunited with former Villanova Wildcats teammates: Josh Hart, Donte DiVincenzo, and Jalen Brunson. Brunson was one of the best point guards in the NBA a season ago. He is one of the reasons why people think he could lead the Knicks to an NBA Championship. One of the biggest criticisms from the fanbase is about head coach Tom Thibodeau running his players into the ground.

As for the Celtics, there were a lot of critics about head coach Joe Mazzulla until he delivered an NBA title. Jayson Tatum and Jaylen Brown will look to win another title and look to silence doubters once again. Tatum came off the bench for Team U.S.A. in the Paris Olympics and wants to prove people wrong. Jaylen Brown was the NBA Finals MVP last season. The Boston Celtics have one of the best rosters in the NBA entering the 2024-2025 season.

Boston will also have Jrue Holiday, Derrick White, Kristaps Porzingis, and Al Horford coming off the bench. Having Porzingis feels like a cheat code for the Celtics. Horford is coming back for another season after deciding not to retire from the NBA despite winning an NBA Championship a season ago. The New York Knicks and the Boston Celtics should be a great first-game battle of the 2024-2025 season. There is no doubt that a lot of NBA analysts will talk about this as an Eastern Conference Finals preview.
