Los Angeles Dodgers Tyler Glasnow Heads To IL With Elbow Injury

The Los Angeles Dodgers pitching staff has been ravaged by injuries this season. Due to ailments popping up, they have not been able to keep a consistent rotation all season. Ace Tyler Glasnow spent some time on the IL right before the All-Star break. The hope was that he would be back for the pennant race in August and September. Los Angeles will have to wait a little longer as the right-hander ended up on the IL yet again.

Los Angeles Dodgers Tyler Glasnow To IL

Tyler Glasnow was scheduled to start on Saturday for the Los Angeles Dodgers. However, after a bullpen session, he reportedly had some discomfort in his right elbow. Reports indicate the pitcher fought to stay off the IL, but the team wanted to be extra cautious. The former Tampa Bay Ray has already pitched a career-high 134 innings this season and had Tommy John surgery in 2022. Manager Dave Roberts talked about the decision after Friday’s game.

“After his bullpen, he felt good, but the next day during catch play, it flared up a little bit. Right now, it’s tendinitis. We took scans and that’s what came of it. Our expectation is that it’s going to be the two weeks, we backdated it a few days, and then when his time is up, he’ll be ready to make his start and we’ll plug him in somewhere.”

“He was fighting tooth and nail to make the start tomorrow, but we’ve been very consistent as far as the stretch run, getting guys ready for the stretch run, and he’s a big part of finishing this season off the right way. If he were to make the start tomorrow, I would’ve been on pins and needles from the first throw and I don’t think that’s good for him, good for the team and, again, we made the right decision.”

All signs point to Tyler Glasnow coming back in two weeks and pitching in the month of September. They are going to need him as the division is far from locked up.

Division Crown In Jeopardy?

The Los Angeles Dodgers have two teams breathing down their neck. The Arizona Diamondbacks and the San Diego Padres are both 8-2 in their last ten games. Los Angeles is clinging to a three-game lead with about six weeks to go in the season. While it seems unlikely the Dodgers would miss the playoffs entirely, teams want to stay out of the one-game playoff. Even with their powerful hitting lineup, they will need their rotation to shut down opposing offenses.

Early in the season, the Los Angeles Dodgers seemed to have wrapped up this division. However, injuries have made the reality of the situation very different. While it does seem like Tyler Glasnow will be back for the postseason, the injuries are starting to become a real concern for this team. As the pennant race begins, the Dodgers will have to watch their backs or they could lose the division crown.
